Obituary for Wayne Primeau
August 22, 2022

Wayne L. Primeau, “Mr. P,” 79, of Pine Grove, died Monday, August 22, 2022, at home surrounded by his family. He was born October 18, 1942, in Pearl River, NY, to the late Stanley P. and Florence Primeau. He was raised on Long Island, NY, and was a graduate of Lindenhurst High School. Wayne married his high school sweetheart, Rita, in 1963, whom he met on their first day of ninth grade.
Wayne followed in his father’s footsteps and completed an apprenticeship with the International Alliance of Theatrical and Stage Employees (stage hands’ union) Local 340. He also joined Local 52 in Manhattan where he worked in stage and television as an electrician and front light operator, and had the pleasure of working on Broadway with multiple famous actors and actresses. He took pride in working multiple jobs while at the same time caring for his young family.
In 1971, Wayne and his family moved from Massapequa Park, NY, to Pine Grove so he could take a larger part in raising his sons. He worked as a self-employed contractor across the region, with a specialty in remodeling kitchens and bathrooms.
Wayne was involved in the Pine Grove community; he was deeply involved in mentoring the community’s youth. He became an integral member of the Pine Grove Boy Scouts of America Troop 111 in the Fall of 1971. Scouting was an important part of his life, where he served as Asst. Scout Master and the Webelos den leader for many years, oversaw dozens of Eagle Scouts, and shared his expertise and mentorship actively until 2008. He also continued to mentor from the sidelines up until the days before his death. The local scouting movement will remember him as Mr. P and the profoundly impactful phrase, “watch the meat!”
He was involved in the Camp Pine Grove Association for multiple decades and served as a past president. He was also responsible for organizing and managing the remodeling of its cabins and kitchen.
Wayne was a charter member of the Schuylkill County Bass Anglers and spent many weekends participating in tournaments. He was also an avid wing shooter and small game hunter.
Preceding him in death was a sister Suzanne.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rita, and their sons, Larry, Marc, Mathew (Crystal), Will, and Dave (Sascha), 11 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, daughter-in-law Wendy Yourman, brother Stanley (Marian), nieces and nephews.
