Verna M. Krause Hunt passed away peacefully on December 27th, 2024 at Artman Lutheran Home in Ambler, PA. 

Mrs. Hunt was born in the village of Rock, PA to parents Milton Krause and Minnie Peiffer Krause on August 24th, 1927. The fifth of eight children, Mrs. Hunt often cited her country upbringing as the source of her strong work ethic and practical nature, both of which served her well throughout her life. Some of her fondest childhood memories, which she delighted in recounting to family and friends alike, were of the one-room country schoolhouse where she spent most of her early schooling. A voracious reader from a young age, she always said that she read everything she could get her hands on; her family recount that her love of literature was one of her defining characteristics, evident in her reading multiple books per week, even in the months preceding her passing. 

After graduating from Pine Grove High School at sixteen years old, she enrolled in the Bryn Mawr Hospital School of Nursing as part of the United States Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II. She graduated from Bryn Mawr at the top of her class in 1948, receiving the Mrs. S. Weston Scott prize, and went on to become a registered nurse for the majority of her career. Some notable facilities she worked at include Abington Memorial Hospital (now Jefferson Abington Hospital) and Gwynedd Square Nursing Home (now Gwynedd Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center); her longest tenure was at Chestnut Hill Hospital as an emergency room nurse. 

Following her graduation from nursing school, Mrs. Hunt moved to Philadelphia, where she met Thomas R. Hunt, whom she married in 1953. They moved to suburban Ambler, PA, where they raised three children.

While beloved by friends and patients alike for her commitment to upholding the highest standards of medicine and for her staunch belief in medical advocacy, those who knew her best also recall her love of crossword puzzles, needlework, and, of course, her family.

She is survived by a brother, Sterling Krause; her son, Thomas R. Hunt, Jr.; her daughters, Alison Hunt-Thompson and Adriane Hunt; as well as seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., in Pine Grove, PA. There will be a viewing on Saturday, January 4, 2025 from 10:00 AM until11:00 AM at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Hetzel's Church Cemetery.
