Thomas E. Hummel

Thomas E. Hummel, 78 years old of Pine St., Tremont, a much loved brother, uncle, great uncle and friend was called Home by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at the Lehigh Valley Hospital Schuylkill East.
Born on July 4, 1942 in Tremont, he was a son of the late Luther and Violet Miller Hummel.
He was a graduate of Tremont High School and then enlisted in the United States Navy, having served for 4 years on numerous ships and aircraft carriers. He was aboard a Naval Carrier when the Vietnam War started. He studied at the Navy School of Music, was a member of the Navy Band, and played for President Kennedy. He has literature of his own at JFK Library. Thomas was also a graduate from Antioch University, where he earned his degree in labor law.
After his military service he worked at Penn Dye & Finishing Co. in Pine Grove until he became a International Union Organizer for the Textile Workers Union of America. After his retirement, he and his sister went on a joint adventure and were co-owners and operators of The People's Choice Restaurant until it was sold. During that time, he secured the Naval Band to perform a concert at Tri Valley High School.
Thomas started a marching band in Tremont and was a member of the Tremont Lions Club, Rajah Temple Shriners and the Tremont Masonic Lodge. He loved his family especially his niece and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nephews. Uncle Tom loved them so much and was proud of all of them. He enjoyed their visits, loved hearing about them and always had a funny story to tell about each one of them.
Surviving are his sister Janet and husband Randy Umholtz of Good Spring, a brother Roger Sr. and wife Tamara Hummel of Arizona; a niece Jennifer Reho Zimmerman; nephews, Steven and wife Stephanie Reho, Roger Hummel, Jr. and Jeffrey Hummel; great nieces and nephews, Emily and Ava Zimmerman, Kelby and wife Mackenzie Reho, Joshua and Tyler Reho, Bryce and Gavin Hummel; two great great nephews, Jameson and Jackson.
All Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Pine Grove.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be made to St. Peter's United Church of Christ, 57 Spring St. Tremont, Pa. 17981 in his memory.
