Nicholas Pompilio Obituary

Nicholas C. Pompilio
July 8, 2022

Nicholas C. "Mr. P/Mayor Nick" Pompilio, age 78, of Pine Grove, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2022 at St. Luke's Hospital, Bethlehem, surrounded by his wife of 48 years, Jean, and close family friends after a brief illness.

Born on September 20, 1943 in Dover, N.J., he was a son of the late Joseph "Gyp" and Pauline Brandt Pompilio.

Nick was raised and lived in Netcong, N.J. for 63 years before moving to Pine Grove in 2006.

He was a graduate of Netcong High School and earned his BS in Accounting from the University of Tampa.

Nick was later drafted into the US Army where he achieved the rank of Sergeant and was a Nuclear Weapons Specialist.

After his Honorable Discharge from military service, Nick went on to work for Chubb Insuarnce Group in Commercial Lines as an Internal Auditor for 32 years.  After retirement, Nick and Jean moved to Pine Grove, where Nick promptly went back to work at Lowe's in Pottsville, retiring after 14 years of service in March of this year.

While living in Netcong, Nick served on the Borough of Netcong town Council.  He was then elected Mayor in 1984, serving his community for 23 years before retiring in 2007.  He was inducted into the New Jersey Mayors Hall of Fame in 2005.

Nick was also a member of the East Coast Four Wheel Drive Association, Region B and Independent Jeeps of South Jersey Racing Team.  He served as Treasurer and then as Chairman of the Association for 6 years.  He was also an avid NASCAR fan and loved camping.  The camping adventures allowed Nick to make friends from all over the country, and he loved them all like family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Lauren (Pompilio) Boyer.

Surviving, in addition to his wife Jean (Ayers) Pompilio, is a son Jay and wife Carolyn of Anthem, AZ, three grandchildren, Mia and Aidan of Anthem, AZ and Andrea (Boyer) Hartline of Fleetwood, PA; two sisters, Paula Conrads of Newton, N.J. and Shirley Lavin of Howell, N.J.; many cherished nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law Janice and husband Bob Depuy of Ellicott City, MD.
