Merlin J. Jones, 81, of Suedberg Rd., Pine Grove,  passed away on Monday, April 30, 2018 in the Tremont Health & Rehab Center.

Born on July 8, 1936  in Rock, he was a son of the late Robert and Lizzie Ankenbrandt Jones.

He was a 1955 graduate of Pine Grove High School and a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Pine Grove.  He enlisted in the Reserves for the Marine Corp and the Army.

Merlin was a Carpenter and worked for various construction companies.

He was a member of the Pine Grove Masonic Lodge No. 409 F & A.M., Oak Grove Sportsmans Club and North End Fire Co.

Preceding him in death was a sister, Harvena Scanlan.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Shirley M. Aungst Jones;  a son, Robert Jones at home;  a brother, Lamar Hummel of Pine Grove;  nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., Pine Grove, with Dr. Richard Schoenleber officiating.  There will be a viewing on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 from 10:00 A.M.-11:00 A.M. at the Funeral  Home. Masonic Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. prior to the service starting.  Interment will follow in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Tremont.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 312 S. Tulpehocken St., Pine Grove, Pa. 17963 in his memory.
