Howard J. Klinger, 97, of Suedberg Rd., Pine Grove,  passed away on Friday, April 16, 2021 at home.

Born on May 18, 1923 in Outwood, he was the son of the late Roy and Mamie Klahr Klinger.

Howard was a long time member of the Suedberg Church of God, Pine Grove.  He attended the one room Outwood School House and Pine Grove Area High School.  He enjoyed the outdoors, hiking and bicycling well into his 90's.

Howard served in the U. S. Army beginning on January 18, 1943, serving with the 3513 Ordnance Medium Automotive Maintenance Company.  He served in Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland during WWII.  He was discharged December 13, 1945.

Upon returning home from WWII, Howard began a career with Bethlehem Steel Corporation where he worked his way from "mucker" to blaster and foreman.  When Hurricane Agnes closed the Cornwall Ore Mine in 1972, Howard worked at Millard's open pit quarry until he retired from Bethlehem Steel in 1974.  He then worked for the Pine Grove Area School District as a custodian where he retired again in 1988.

Preceding him in death were his wife of 59 years, Marian B. Klinger, 1 brother and 3 sisters.

Surviving are a son, Dean H. and wife Lola Klinger of Pine Grove; a daughter Lisa J. Klinger of Kooskia, Idaho; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two brothers, Jim Klinger of Puyallup, WA and Richard Klinger of Friedensburg; nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at the Suedberg Church of God, 898 Suedberg Rd., Pine Grove with Pastor Terrence Jansma officiating.  Interment will follow in the Suedberg Church of God Cemetery, Pine Grove.
