Gary M. Pominville, Sr., 78 of Schuylkill Haven, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026 in the Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest after a long battle of illness.
Born on November 4, 1947 he was a son of the late Malcolm and Alice Hutton Pominville.
He was a 1966 graduate of Pine Grove Area High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for 28 years. During his time in the military, he received the Meritorious Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force and Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/ 4 service stars, and various other awards..
After returning from the Vienam War, he continued pursuing his military and civilian education aspirations. He received his B.S. Degree and Master's Degree at Penn State University in 1974. In 1976, he attended 14 months of Officer Candidate School and achieved the rank of First Lieutenant. In 1990, he obtained his Principal Certificate from Lehigh University.
He was a teacher for 22 years, having taught at the Schuylkill Intermediate Vo-Tech, Lehigh Vocational Institute and Blue Mountain High School. He also used his military teaching, having taught ROTC students at the University of Wilmington, NC and University of Lehigh. Lastly, he was an Assistant Principal at the Palmyra High School and Blue Mountain High School.
Gary was a member of the Pine Grove VFW, Wounded Warriors, and USAA.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, was a sister, Pearl Pominville,
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Elaine (Brown) Pominville; one son, Gary Jr. and wife Natalie Pominville; two grandsons, Gary Pominville, III and Zachary Pominville; two brothers, Abraham Pominville of Nevada, Warren Pominville of Schuylkill Haven; one sister, Bernadette and husband Leonard Moyer of Schuylkill Haven; one niece, nephews and cousins.
Per Gary's wishes, there will be no services and he wanted everyone to remember him in their own way. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be made to Parkinson and MS Foundations.
