Edward Smith Obituary

Edward L. Smith
November 23, 2021

Edward L. Smith, 86, of Oak Grove Rd., Pine Grove, passed away peacefully with his loved ones around him, on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at St. Luke's Hospital Anderson Campus, Easton.

Born on November 30, 1934 in Outwood, he was a son of the late Arthur and Elvira Felty Smith.

He was a 1953 graduate of Pine Grove High School and attended the Pine Grove Wesleyan Church.

Ed enlisted in the Marines and transferred to the Air Force as an electrician.  He served during the Korean Conflict, was stationed in Germany and spent time in Switzerland, Poland, Italy, Syria and London during his time in the military.

When Ed returned from the military, he worked construction, helping build interstate 81. He then worked at Quaker Alloy and retired from the Pine Grove Landfill.

He was a lifetime member of the Pine Grove VFW Post 3432 and Mill Run Hunting Camp where he spent time hunting deer, bear, fishing and enjoyed weekends with his family.

Ed loved spending time with his kids and grandkids and enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports. He and Pat went to many games together.  Ed loved playing cards and he and Pat would often be at the kitchen table in an intense match of 500 rummy.  He also played many long, quiet games of solitaire.  Ed enjoyed watching TV, especially the Eagles and Phillies games, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy with the volume turned all the way up!  Previously, he had a garden filled with fruits and vegetables and an orchard full of fruit trees.

Ed was the most sincere, soft-spoken, genuine, warm-hearted man.  He was a companion, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be missed by so many people.

Preceding him in death was a brother, Herbert "Sonny" Smith.

Surviving are his companion of 32 years, Pat Boltz; children, Daryl Smith, Penny and husband Jamie Wolfe, Missy and husband Ron Miller, Jim Boltz and companion Kelly Rumpf, Chuck and wife Cheryl Boltz, Pam and husband Scott Moyer, all originally from Pine Grove; eight grandchildren, Madi and husband Dan Goldhahn, Blake Smith, Izzy Miller, Shawn Boltz, Amanda and husband Josh Goodman, Kody Boltz, Justin Moyer, Charity Moyer; great grandchildren; a sister Mary Frantz of Pine Grove; nieces and nephews; and his sweet, fluffy long-haired cat named Roxy.

Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, December 12, 2021 at 2:30 P.M. at the Pine Grove Wesleyan Church, 74 Bethel Rd., Pine Grove with Pastor Earl Hertzog officiating. There will be a visitation on Sunday, December 12, 2021 from 1:30 P.M. until 2:30 P.M. at the Church.
