Donald Moyer Obituary

Donald Lee Moyer
May 2, 2022

It is with great sadness we announce that our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, Donald Lee Moyer, 88, of Logan, Utah, formerly of Pine Grove, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 2, 2022 at Logan Regional Hospital, following a brief illness.

Born on September 24, 1933 in Pottsville, PA., he was a son of the late Tennyson A. and Stella M. Hand Moyer.  He lived the first 17 years of his life in Lincoln, PA.

He graduated from Tremont Township High School in 1950 and Tremont High School in 1951.

His first job was working at an independent coal mine.  He worked in construction jobs in Pennsylvania before moving to Washington DC in 1955 to become a brick mason, a profession that he dearly loved.  He worked and built homes in Washington, DC and Northern Virginia.  He attended Strayers Business School for one year studying accounting.

On September 1, 1956, he married his high school sweetheart, Seray I. Maurer in the Tremont Reformed Church in Tremont.  After marriage, Donald and Seray had two daughters, Patricia Seray and Polly Ann and lived in Arlington, VA until December 1963 when they moved to Pine Grove.  They rented and operated a bar in Pine Grove for three years called Don's Cafe' Incorporated before buying a home at 51 E. Pottsville St. in Pine Grove where they lived for almost 50 years.

In 2012, Donald and Seray moved to Logan, Utah where they lived with their daughter and son-in-law, Eric and Patricia Packenham until they sold their home and moved into the Wasatch Point Apartments.

Donald was an avid New York Yankees fan and he loved to shoot pool.  He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Pine Grove and the Pine Grove Masonic Lodge No. 409 F. & A.M.  He and Seray faithfully attended First Presbyterian Church in Logan, Utah.

Preceding him in death were four brothers, Robert, John, Raymond, and Joseph Moyer; and a sister Ruth Ann Ossman.

Donald is survived by his wife of 65 years, Seray I. Maurer Moyer of Logan, UT; two daughters, Patricia S. Moyer-Packenham and husband Eric of Logan, UT, Polly Ann and husband Abraham Ortiz of Chula Vista, CA; three grandchildren, Amanda and husband Robert Tennison of Greenville, TX, Austin Ortiz and Jake Ortiz, both of Chula Vista, CA; two great granddaughters, Harley Ann Tennison and Kelsey Sue Tennison; six sisters, Joan Harman of Valley View, Helen Shadle of Pine Grove, Sue Fulkrod of Millersburg, Jean Klinger of Lavelle, Patricia Whiteside of Beaufort, S.C., Beverly Weller of Orwigsburg; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. at the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., Pine Grove, with Pastor David Fehr officiating.  Masonic Services will be held prior to the start of the service.  Interment will follow in St. Matthew's Lutheran Cemetery, Pine Grove,
