Dennis C. Wertz, 77, of Maple St., Pine Grove, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at home.

Born on October 12, 1947 in Pottsville, he was a son of the late Mathias "Dink" Wertz and June M. Huggler Wertz Zerbe.

He graduated from Pine Grove Area High School.  After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he worked in the Intelligence Dept. and earned a degree from Syracuse College.  He finished out his service time in the Guards.

Dennis had a love of firearms and shooting from a young age which led him to excel in trap shooting.  He was a member of numerous trap teams, finishing first in many tournaments.  He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter and loved his family.

Dennis was a Framing Supervisor at Penn Dye in Pine Grove and then was the Lost Prevention Officer at Big Lots in Tremont. After retiring, he helped David Keefer at his gun shop.

Surviving are his wife of almost 23 years, Cynthia M. Hummel Wertz; two sons, Fred Wertz and companion Julie of New York, Michael and wife Theresa Wertz of Indiana; a stepson, Jared and wife Katie Dunlop of Williamstown; and was a paw paw to six grandchildren. He is also survived by a cousin, Lloyd and wife Joanne Wertz of Pottsville, and his extended family, the Lehr family.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in St. Paul's Reformed Cemetery, Ravine with his parents.
