Barbara A. Gibbon
May 3, 2021
Barbara Ann Gibbon, 86, of Laurel St., Pine Grove, passed away with her daughter by her side on Monday, May 3, 2021 at Providence Place, Pine Grove after battling cancer and surviving COVID.
Born on March 14, 1935 in Edwardsville, PA, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Barbara Mihal Zoshack.
She was a graduate of Edwardsville High School and attended Penn State. She was a parishioner at the Most Blessed Trinity Parish in Tremont.
Barbara was the Personnel Director at Gold Mills-Penn Dye/Guilford Mills for many years. She loved her job at "The Mill"; she liked the people she worked with and having a career. Guilford Mills called her back two times after she retired because it was hard to find someone to fill her shoes.
She came to her lifelong hobby of reading early on. As a girl, instead of doing her chores, she liked to lie on the rug in front of the screen door in summer and read books she checked out from the Osterhout Library. She loved to get lost in a good book. In her later years, she loved doing things at her own pace, dozing on her flowered sofa, and talking each day to her daughter about everything and nothing.
Barbara took care of her husband for years when he was ill, and family and friends knew that she was the reason he kept going. She was just the sort of person you wanted by your side when times were tough.
Preceding her in death was her husband of 55 years, Thomas L. Gibbon.
Surviving are a daughter, Maureen Gibbon and husband Jeff Jones of Bemidji, MN; a son, Thomas Gibbon of Salem, OR; three grandchildren, Jonathan, Russell, and Jenilee Gibbon; a sister Mildred and husband John Lincosky of Pittsburgh; a niece and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held at a later date. Interment will be in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be made to the Ruth Steinert SPCA, 18 Wertz Dr., Pine Grove, Pa. 17963 in her memory.
The H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., Pine Grove is in charge of arrangements and you may send condolences online at www.hlsnyderfuneralhome.com
