Barbara E. Brown, 76 of  Arlington, VA,  passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2021.

Born on June 26, 1944 in Pottsville, PA, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Hattie Lengel Brown.
 

She was a 1962 graduate of Pine Grove Area High School.  Immediately following graduation she, along with several classmates, went to the Washington, D.C. area to find employment.  She began her career with the Library of Congress and after several years took a job with IBM Corporation where she worked until she retired in 1992.

Barbara enjoyed taking walks and bike rides, watching movies (specifically Westerns), and sitting on her porch watching and talking with her many friends in the neighborhood.  She was one of the longest tenured residents of her neighborhood and worked very hard to make the neighborhood a better place to live.  She was sometimes referred to as the “mayor”.  Her neighbors held a special place in her heart and her family thanks them for all they have done for her over the years.  

Barbara’s most favorite past-time was watching Women’s basketball - both professional and college.  She was a season ticket holder to the Washington Mystics and rarely missed a game.  
 
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two nephews; James Brown and Edward Brown, Jr.  She is also preceded in death by her two furbabies, Misty and Jobbe, whose remains will be interred with her.
 
Surviving are three brothers; Carl and his wife Patricia Brown of Somerset, PA, Larry and his wife Carole Brown and Edward, Sr. and his wife Joanne Brown, all of Pine Grove;  two nieces, Cheryl (Brown) and her husband Herb Felty of Pine Grove and Brandee (Brown) and her husband Eric Siegfried of Pottsville; three nephews; Steven and wife Cindy Brown of Byron, IL, Patrick Brown of Wooster, OH, and Larry, Jr. and wife Katie of Pine Grove.

A memorial walk and service will be held in Troy Park (Arlington, VA) on Friday, May 7, 2021 beginning at 6:00 p.m.  Graveside services & Interment will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s Brown’s Cemetery, Schuylkill Haven with SALM John Ziegler officiating.  
 
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be made to a local SPCA of choice in her memory.
