Arthur C. Long
December 2, 2025
Arthur ”Skip” Long passed away in his home surrounded by family on December 2, at the age of 90.
Skip was the son of the late Hanford and Evelyn Boyer Long of Donaldson, PA and the brother of Gerald Long, Sr. and Phyllis Meneeley. He graduated from Tremont High School in 1952 and married Marian Wentz June 1, 1957, who preceded him in death in 2017.
Skip was employed by the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company (better known as the A&P) for 39 years as manager of various departments and assistant store manager at multiple store locations. He served in the army, as well as the Pine Grove unit of the Army National Guard for 22 years, where he rose to the rank of Platoon Sergeant. After retiring from the A&P and National Guard, he worked as a custodian for Pine Grove Area School District.
Throughout his life, he served on several church councils and committees. Most recently, he was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Pine Grove, where he served as an usher, greeter, and coordinator of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
Skip was an avid hunter and fisherman, as well as the local butcher during deer season for many years. He enjoyed attending high school football games and watching the Eagles, Red Sox, and Phillies on TV. He also enjoyed organizing and cooking meals at Swatara Village where he lived since 2001, as well as attending social events there. In recent years, he enjoyed spending time with friends daily at the Tremont Senior Center. But above all else, he dedicated his time to caring for his wife, children, and grandchildren.
He is survived by his children Kathy Mann, Clay Long, and Penny Vojtasek, as well as grandchildren Melissa Thompson, Thomas Mann, Amanda Long, Tara Slyman, Erin See, and Jade Vojtasek, as well as 7 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held privately at the convenience of the family at H.L. Snyder Funeral Home in Pine Grove.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Skip’s memory to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Pine Grove or to Diakon Community Services/Tremont Center, 2020 W. Norwegian St., Pottsville, PA 17901.
