Allen F. "Pop" Herring, 90, of Sweet Arrow Lake Rd., Pottsville, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2025 in Seton Manor Nursing Home, Orwigsburg.

Born on January 4, 1935 in Pine Grove, he was a son of the late Allen J. and Martha E. Jamison Herring.

He was a 1953 graduate of Pine Grove High School.

Allen was a coal miner, farmer and lastly a yard supervisor for 35 years at his family's business, MRD Lumber.

He was a member of St. Paul's UCC, Summer Hill.  He had been a long time member of the Friedensburg Fish and Game and the Roedersville Game and Fish.

Allen loved working, hunting, butchering, helping people, and his family.  He would do anything for anyone who asked and what people remembered most was his laughter.  In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball, quoites and shooting darts.  

Preceding him in death were a son, Dean Herring; two brothers, Delton Herring and Sterling Herring; three sisters, Roma Herring, Fern Roeder and Josephine Kosack Campbell.

Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Mary Neidlinger Herring; two sons, Wayne and wife Debbie Herring of Pottsville, Mark and wife Yvonne Herring of New Ringgold; nine grandchildren, Wayne Herring Jr, whom Allen and Mary raised, Linda Pikulin, Laura Lee Hughes, Leslie Herring, Christopher Herring, Michael Herring, Leanne Kemmerling, Joshua Herring and Casey Herring; 23 great grandchildren; a brother, Dennis Herring of Cressona; four sisters, Ardith Moyer of Schuylkill Haven, Lucille Reichert of Pine Grove; Reba Taylor of Harrisburg and Janice Arnold of Mechanicsburg; nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at 11:00 A.M., at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 1235 Summer Hill Rd., Auburn with Pastor Ken McDowell officiating.  There will be a visitation on Saturday, April 19, 2025 from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at the church. Interment will follow in Summer Hill Cemetery.
