Sandra Elaine Lehr, age 69, passed away in the Reading Hospital on Monday, August 27, at 6 PM. Sandra was born on March 14, 1949, in Pine Grove to the late Arthur and Ethel Hoy Lehr.

She graduated Pine Grove High School in 1967, Susquehanna University with a Bachelors of Philosophy in 1971 and a Masters in Art and Religion from Gettysburg Seminary in 1982. She spent most of her life in Lancaster County.

Sandra was consecrated as a Lutheran Deaconess in 1983, working at St Mark's Lutheran Church in Hanover and later at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lancaster. She retired in 1989 due to disability and then volunteered for Red Cross, Humane League and her church in Leola, Zion Lutheran Church. She enjoyed flowers, needlework, reading and sports. Sandra made innumerable prayer shawls for the Deaconess Community to distribute comfort to those in need of prayer.

Zion Lutheran Church celebrated her 35th year as a Deaconess while she as a patient at Lancaster General Hospital. The pastor brought cake in for her and the staff and shared a prayer.

In 2016, Sandra moved to Colonial Lodge in Denver, Pa in their personal care facility. Her health declined in the last year and she spent much of her time in specialized facilities. She moved to Zerbe Retirement Community on August 3, 2018 and lived there for 17 days until taken to the Reading Hospital.

Preceding her in death were two sisters, Irene Lehr and Nancy Hess.

Sandra is survived by her Brother, James and wife Shirley Lehr of Slatington, Pa: nieces and nephews, many sisters from the Deaconess Community, and her beloved church family in Leola.

Memorial Services will be held at Jacob's Lutheran Church, 316 Suedberg Road, Pine Grove, on Thursday, September 20, at 10;30 a.m with Pastor Karen Larson and Pastor Barry Spatz officiating. Interment will follow in the Jacob's Lutheran Cemetery, Pine Grove.
