Colin Tobin Obituary

Colin M. Tobin

March 27, 2024

Colin M. Tobin, 81, of Pine Grove, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 surrounded by his family.

Born June 23, 1942, he was the son of the late James and Evelyn Tobin.

Colin worked as a mechanic. He also served in the U.S. Army National Guard, Co B (-) 228th Transportation Battalion from September 1959 to June 1963 and the U.S. Army Reserves from June 1963 to May 1967.

An incredible husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, his clear and consistent love for everyone in his family established lifelong, unbreakable bonds that forever will be cherished. He always had or made time for family, friends and causes that were important to him. His patented thoughtfulness and generosity touched many from Donaldson to Pine Grove, often volunteering at the American Legion Post 374 in Pine Grove and for countless community causes. His skills as a mechanic and repairman bailed out many thankful friends and neighbors, often at a moment’s notice.

Colin touched the lives of so many with whom he crossed paths. A gifted storyteller with an easygoing delivery, his yarns about life growing up in Frailey Township, local history and insights on everyday life endeared him to many. He was a caring, genuine “nice guy” whose love, deeds and friendliness will live on among those who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Unger Tobin, to whom he was married for 60 years; a daughter and caregiver later in life, Crystal, wife of Terry Stump; and a son, Brian Tobin, and his wife, Diane, all of Pine Grove. He was preceded in death by beloved sisters Anna Pontoriero, June DesRoches, Grace Camilo, Irma McCurdy, Mae Lorraine Young, and Florence McCkosky, and brothers Allen "Les" Tobin, and James "Pete" Tobin. He is survived by loving sisters Dorothy Herb, Carol Schwalm, Evelyn Eisenacher, as well as grandchildren Bradley Tobin, Linglestown, and Mickayla Stump, Pine Grove; great grandkids, Molly and Eva Tobin, Pine Grove; numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
